FORMER PRO BULL RIDER READY TO TAME ATLANTIC CITY INDOOR AUTO RACING COURSE ATLANTIC CITY, NJ January 14, 2010 . . . Eight seconds. It’s the only common denominator between bull riding and indoor auto racing. And Jim “Timex” Morgan knows all about it. Morgan, who is one of the expected 96 entries for the upcoming indoor Three-Quarter Auto Midget race at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. on Jan.-30., knows first hand. “That rush you get of driving a race car indoors with 20 or more other cars around you is the same rush you get when you’re riding that bull and you come flying out of the gate,” Morgan said. “You try to hang on that bull for eight seconds and that’s about how long it takes to complete a lap indoors.” Morgan was a bull rider before he decided to race cars. He took an interest in the sport after learning more about it when he was stationed in Texas with the U.S. Army. “I did all this long before there was a professional organized tour,” Morgan said. “It is something I always liked, then a few guys went one night and I decided to give it a try.” How Jim Morgan became known as Timex Morgan? “One night I got thrown and was knocked out,” Morgan said. “I refused to give up, so I came back in the next round and got back on another bull. “The announcer said something like, ‘This guy doesn’t stop. He’s like a Timex watch.’” Morgan returned home with his new name, a few dollars and an adrenaline void that needed filled with some form of intense rush. Morgan found it in racing and when he decided to race the indoors with the TQ-Midgets, like what will be at Boardwalk Hall, he found his true-calling. Morgan started to race Micro Sprint Cars outdoors. In 2004, he won the Limerock (N.Y.) Speedway title and Rookie of the Year honor, the first time a driver won both titles in the same year. In 2005 and 2006, he claimed the Paradise (N.Y.) Speedway track title. Morgan, a 79-time career feature winner, is now one of the fan-favorites of indoor auto racing, as he’s been a regular entrant in the Boardwalk Hall races. “Indoor racing is where it is at,” Morgan said. “It’s wheel-to-wheel. It’s tight corridor racing and there is no room for error. If you can’t drive, it definitely shows up indoors.” Morgan is still bringing 600cc Micro Sprints to race in the competitive series, which also includes the quick-to-respond TQ-Midgets. “I can’t wait to get to Atlantic City,” Morgan said. “It has to be a thrill for the fans to be indoors and to see all of the action. “I know it’s a thrill inside the car. There are all kinds of things going on in short time. You have to worry about what’s going on in front of you, what happening behind you and what going on beside you. It is an intense time filled with a lot of excitement.”
In addition to a car for himself, Morgan has a second entry for female driver Jessica Zemken. The female driver from New York is part of the Tony Stewart Racing Sprint Car team. “She’s a great driver and I think she’ll do very well,” Morgan said. “We always like to have another car and we like putting a star in it.” In the past, Morgan has fielded cars for PJ Chesson, Jack Arute, Jeremy Mayfield, Lou Cicconi Jr., Joey Payne and Erick Rudolph.
The high-powered, TQ-Midget cars will headline the two-day card. Some 100 drivers are expected to contend for the Gambler's Classic title. The Slingshot and Champ Kart race cars, which provide just as much entertainment as the TQ Midgets, will be on the card each night as well. Defending champions are Paul Lotier Jr. of Lebanon, Pa. (Slingshots) and Ryan Kendall of East Greenbush, N.Y. (Champ Karts). Fans can purchase tickets by calling Ticketmaster at (800)-736-1420 or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets will also be on sale at this weekend’s Motorsports 2010. Fans can also purchase tickets at the Boardwalk Hall Ticket Office. Tickets will be $2 more at the door on the day of the race.

JESSICA ZEMKEN FILES ENTRY FOR GAMBLER'S CLASSIC ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – January 7th . . . Jessica Zemken is busy preparing for the upcoming outdoor racing season with Tony Stewart Racing. But on January 29-30, Zemken, 23, of Sprakers, N.Y., is taking time off from the rigorous preparation to compete in the two-day TQ-Midget indoor race at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., which is highlighted with the prestigious Gambler’s Classic. Zemken will drive for top driver and car owner Timex Morgan of Rochester, N.Y. “She’s a great driver who knows how to adapt to the car and race track,” Morgan said. “I remember watching her race a car at the Monroe County (N.Y.) Fairgrounds, and it only took her five laps to figure out things.” Zemken visited Boardwalk Hall once as a fan in 2007. “It is a fun atmosphere,” Zemken said. “It can be pretty intense especially in qualifying, because you have so many cars trying to get into the feature race.” Nearly 96 cars are expected to vie for the 26 available spots in the Gambler’s Classic, a 40-lap race that will be contested on Saturday, Jan. 30. A 30-lap preliminary race, which will have 24 cars in the starting field, will be held on Friday, Jan. 29. “It will be quite an experience racing with all those cars on the track,” Zemken said. “A lot of experienced and great drivers will be competing to get that win.” The entry list is filled with many experienced and successful race car drivers including Billy Pauch, a winner of more than 650 dirt Modified features; Ted Christopher, a former NASCAR Modified Tour champion and defending Gambler’s Classic winner; Lou Cicconi Jr., a multi-time indoor and outdoor feature winner; Mike Stefanik, a nine-time NASCAR series winner who was named the second-best all-time NASCAR Modified Tour driver of all time; Frank Polimeda, the defending ARDC Midget champion; and Ryan Smith, a 26-time Micro Sprint Car feature winner this past season. Zemken has competed in 360 Sprint Car events, mainly with the Empire Sprint Series and ASCS Patriot Group, but she has recently signed to drive a Tony Stewart Racing 410 Sprint Car this season. She plans to run a “true outlaw" schedule in 2010, competing in a variety of 410 and 360 Sprint Car races with Tony Stewart Racing. TSR is taking Zemken's existing No. 1z team under its wing and will provide technical assistance. Donny Schatz and Steve Kinser are TSR’s primary winged Sprint Car drivers on the World of Outlaws tour. “Our goal is to be ready by the end of March,” Zemken said. “We don’t have any plans to race in Florida, as we’re in the process of putting together cars and getting crew help.” Zemken is in the process of getting a new hauler and other inventory to compete outdoors this season. Zemken competed in a Midget Car at the Chili Bowl Nationals at the Tulsa (Okla.) Expo Center a few years ago. But the 600cc Micro Sprint Car that she’ll drive for Morgan in Atlantic City is smaller than the full-sized Midget Car she drove at the Chili Bowl Nationals. “I’m looking forward to getting to Atlantic City,” Zemken said. “I’m interested to get the 2010 racing season started. The Gambler’s Classic is still a race that, as race car drivers, we want to win plus it is competitive and that’s where we thrive.” Fans can purchase tickets by calling Ticketmaster at (800)-736-1420 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

Fans can also purchase tickets at the Boardwalk Hall Ticket Office. Tickets will be $2 more at the door on the day of the race.

BECCA ANDERSON SET FOR TQ-MIDGET INAUGURAL RUN ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – January 7, 2010 . . . Survive to the end. That’s the key to being successful in the upcoming prestigious two-day TQ-Midget indoor race at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., on January 29-30. For female race car driver Becca Anderson, winning a wildly entertaining and thrilling indoor race when the highly-powered TQ-Midgets take the concrete floor at Boardwalk Hall, is a daunting task that first starts with getting to the checkered flag. “It is definitely something that you have to survive first before you think about winning,” Anderson said. “It’s more about survival.” Anderson, 30, of Houston, Del., is the latest entry in the TQ-Midget class, which numbers in excess of 80 cars, for the two-day event, which culminates with the prestigious 8th annual Gambler’s Classic on Saturday, Jan. 30. Anderson, who has extensive experience in Sprint Car competition, will pilot a car owned and designed by indoor racing ace Lou Cicconi Jr. of Aston, Pa. Expectations could be high as Anderson will be driving one of the most-coveted indoor rides for Cicconi, a one-time Gambler’s Classic winner. According to Cicconi, he will field rides for himself, Anthony Sesely, Chris Stockham and Anderson. In addition, Cicconi’s advice is sought by other racing teams. “Lou prepares some of the best cars for indoor racing,” Anderson said. “I definitely want to make the main event. I would be disappointed if I didn’t qualify for the feature especially with the top caliber cars he brings to Atlantic City.” This will mark Anderson’s first career competitive start on the indoor course at Boardwalk Hall. She did practice in the TQ-Midget class a few years ago. “I think it was maybe the second year they had the race there,” Anderson said. “I had an opportunity to hot lap a car. “It is something totally different than what you’re used to driving. It’s a tight track and there is a lot happening. You have to watch out for the cars in front of you and you are getting nudged by the cars behind you.” Anderson finished fifth on the Bar’s Leaks United Racing Company tour last season. She scored nine top-10 finishes. Anderson, a nine-time career URC winner, first started racing at the age of 11. She has experience in many different motorsports divisions at tracks across the United States In 2004, she was one of six women to take part in the Indy Pro Series test with Nunn Racing in 2004. She also has taken part in Lyn St James Women in the Winners Circle as well as her Driver Development Program. In 2006, Anderson teamed with car owner Mike Woodring on the national-touring World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. NASCAR Modified Tour driver Ted Christopher is the defending champion of the Gambler’s Classic. Christopher is pre-entered for this year’s race, as well. The high-powered, TQ-Midget cars will headline the two-day card. Some 100 drivers are expected to contend for the Gambler's Classic title. The Slingshots, which will competed in the Herr’s Snack Bowl 25, and Champ Karts, which provide just as much entertainment as the TQ Midgets, will be on the card each night as well. Defending champions are Paul Lotier Jr. of Lebanon, Pa. (Slingshots) and Ryan Kendall of East Greenbush, N.Y. (Champ Karts). Both drivers are pre-entered in their respective classes. Fans can purchase tickets by calling Ticketmaster at (800)-736-1420 or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Information on the event is available at aarn.com or by calling (609)-888-3618. STEFANIK SET FOR GAMBLER’S CLASSIC TQ-MIDGET RUN ATLANTIC CITY, NJ . . . December 30th - Mike Stefanik can’t wait for the Gambler’s Classic indoor Three-Quarter Midget race at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. Stefanik, 51, of Coventry, R.I., is the latest entrant for the prestigious two-day indoor race on January 29-30, 2010. The seven-time NASCAR Modified Tour and two-time NASCAR Busch East champion will make his debut TQ-Midget run in Boardwalk Hall, but it won’t be his first indoor TQ-Midget race. Stefanik enters as a favorite in the Colin Martin-owned No. 36 as he captured the Coffee Cup trophy at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, R.I., in early December. “I went to an Atlantic City race (as a fan) in 2007, and it seemed like the track was extremely difficult to pull off passes,” Stefanik said. “I read that they’re planning to alter the turns to make for wider corners, and it got me thinking that I would to give Atlantic City a try.” Martin, who currently has one of the Coffee Cup trophies, agreed to field a car for Stefanik in the Gambler’s Classic, which has become of the most prestigious indoor racing events since its inception in 2003. “Colin said he’s bringing a better car than the one we had in Providence,” Stefanik said. “It’ll be one fast race car if it’s better than what I had at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.” Getting to Atlantic City, N.J., will be quite an adventure for Stefanik and his family. “There is a lot of buzz up here about the race in AC,” he said. “We got thinking about it, and we wanted to make a big deal about it. “So rather than drive down to New Jersey, we are coming down via train. We talked to a lot of race fans about the race, and they’re coming down by train too. We’re making it into a fun trip with some racing thrown in at the same time.” Stefanik’s entry in the TQ-Midget race guarantees that he’ll be competing with one of his racing mentors, Billy Pauch. Pauch won the preliminary feature at Boardwalk Hall last year, and the Frenchtown, N.J., native is one of the reasons why Stefanik did so well in December’s Coffee Cup. “Billy kept giving me hand signals after he dropped out of the Coffee Cup race,” Stefanik said. “He is an awesome driver and person. “It was a big deal to me when I saw his name on the entry list. I was so excited to race against him. Then, we were in the same heat race. We were side-by-side for a few laps and I thought, ‘Man, this is so great. I am racing against Billy Pauch.’” In fact, one of Stefanik’s Christmas gifts was a signed picture from Pauch of the two racing side-by-side in Providence. “I love racing indoors,” Stefanik said. “I love competition and new challenges. “I enjoyed racing against Davey Hamilton, Lou Cicconi Jr. and a bunch of the other drivers. In fact, we have a picture of Lou and I racing side-by-side, and we sent him a copy to sign.” The high-powered, TQ-Midget cars will headline the two-day card.

Keeping in line with the prestigious bowl games that make college football must-see events, the upcoming Slingshot division race at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., on January 29-30, will have elite status as Herr’s Food, Inc., has signed to be the headline sponsor of the Herr’s Snack Bowl 25. ATLANTIC CITY TRACK CHANGE A BIG PLUS FOR DRIVERS AND RACE FANS ATLANTIC CITY, NJ December 17, 2009 . . . This change is for the better. Race fans and race drivers attending the Gambler's Classic indoor racing event on January 29-30, 2010, at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., will notice a subtle and welcoming change to the race track. Turns three and four will widen by approximately five feet as the inside of the track will be moved more onto the hockey rink. The slight alteration will make for a rounder corner and wider exit, which will improve side-by-side racing. For race fans, sightlines will be better for viewing. "I like the rounder-type corners," said Mike Lichty of Innerkip, Ont., Canada, when asked about the corner difference between the track in Atlantic City, N.J., and the one at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. "You are able to carry better momentum through the turns. "Atlantic City is a great place to race indoors. However, with the way the track was designed, the inside was more like a long rectangle. You had to be very careful exiting the turns (with the way the inside corner cut into the track) and it was sometimes tough entering them." Lichty scored his first indoor Three-Quarter (TQ) Midget race victory on December 4 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. He followed his victory with a runner-up finish to winner Mike Stefanik in the Dec. 5 Coffee Cup. Lichty already entered to take part in the upcoming Gambler's Classic. "You can run a smoother line (with the wider turn exit)," Lichty said. "I think the race fans will be pleased with the change." Last January, Lou Cicconi Jr., posted a record-setting 8.982-second lap at Boardwalk Hall. While fans could notice faster speeds, the most notable change will be a better viewing of the race surface. By moving the racing more to the center of the arena the fans will be able to get a better view of the cars. The high-powered, TQ-Midget cars will headline the two-day card for the eighth consecutive year at Boardwalk Hall.

INDOOR AUTO RACING RETURNS TO AC BOARDWALK HALL IN 2010
TRENTON, NJ (ATLANTIC CITY, NJ) ... July 29th, 2009 – Thrilling indoor auto racing is returning to Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall on January 30-31, 2010.
High-powered, TQ Midget race cars will headline the two-day card for the eighth consecutive year. Some 100 drivers are expected to contend for the Gambler’s Classic title.
Indoor racing is considered one of the most-competitive forms of motorsports. It is common for the cars to be separated by inches throughout an entire race. The exciting environment of racing indoors in front of several thousand fans attracts many top drivers. For the fans, the action is right in front of their eyes, not miles away, with replays shown on the hall's video screens.
Current and defending NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Ted Christopher of Plainville, Conn., won the most recent Gambler’s Classic feature. “Racing indoors is so intense for a driver, and it is just as intense for the spectators,” Christopher said. “I know race fans will want to experience the speed and tight competition that happens when you are racing indoors.”
Dirt Modified standout Billy Pauch of Frenchtown, N.J., who has more than 700 victories to his credit, is a regular entry in the Gambler’s Classic. Pauch captured the Friday night race this past January.
Ryan Truex of Stafford Twp., N.J, was a last-minute entry indoor entry in January. Truex, the younger brother of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Martin, has won NASCAR Camping World East Series races as a driver with Michael Waltrip Racing this year.
And the speed of indoor racing is getting quicker. In January, Lou Cicconi Jr., posted a record-setting 8.982-second lap at Boardwalk Hall.
Last winter on the indoor Midget circuit, Cicconi defeated NASCAR Sprint Cup star Tony Stewart in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Details for the eighth annual A.C. Boardwalk Hall race are still be finalized. However, it’s confirmed that the powerful and thrilling TQ Midget race cars will be in competition on both nights. Each program will be highlighted by a main event, with 24 drivers competing.
Tickets will go on sale through Ticketmaster on Wednesday, August 19 at noon. Ticketmaster can be reached by calling (800)-736-1420 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
