PACKED HOUSE ON HAND FOR A.C. GAMBLERS CLASSIC; RUDOLPH SCORES A DOUBLE IN THREE QUARTER MIDGETS AND 600 MICRO SPRINTS; DALEY REPEATS ‘08 CHAMP KART WIN; EAGAN TOPS IN SLINGSHOT THRILLER

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -February 4 . . . In front of one of the largest crowds in Boardwalk Hall's Gamblers Classic ten year history, Ransomville, N.Y.'s Erick Rudolph dominated the weekend events.  After winning the Micro Sprint features Friday and Saturday, Rudolph saved his best effort for last when he overpowered the competition, winning the Gamblers Classic for Three Quarter Midgets.

The race was a three-man affair from the outset.  Front row starters Stewart Friesen and Rudolph paced the field and sparred with each other through a series of double file restarts.  In one of those instances, Rudolph seemed to gain the upper hand only to have the start called back by officials who added a two position penalty for the infraction.

Undeterred, Rudolph passed Friesen after challenging for the lead for several laps.  Friesen seemed destined for a second place finish but a late race tangle with a surging Billy Pauch saw Friesen spin and Pauch penalized.

Rudolph ruled the roost as the laps ran out. The big mover in the last five laps was Ryan Smith, who was trying to put a 600 Micro in the winners circle for the first time.  Smith settled for second place after a sterling drive ahead of  Jon Gambuti, ninth starter Mike Lichty and sixteenth place starter Tim Buckwalter.

The 20 lap Micro Sprint feature turned upside down on a mid-race tangle in the midst of heavy lapped traffic.  Matt Janisch and Lou Cicconi Jr., running first and second, and pulling away from the field, encountered back markers.  Janisch collected one of the lapped cars and nearly flipped. Cicconi clipped Janisch's slowing car and reduced speed himself but was able to keep his car running.

Cicconi thus inherited the lead and a clear track while Janisch restarted at the back of the field. Erick Rudolph, Friday night's 600 Micro feature winner, took up the chase as Cicconi held back all challenges.  With three laps to go, Cicconi and Rudolph went at it head to head.  On the final lap, Rudolph ducked under Cicconi in turn one, made a clean pass off turn two and took the checkered flag.  The exacta of Rudolph and Cicconi was the same finish as the previous night.

In the Champ Karts, Chris Daley, 2008 winner, picked his way through a talent-laden field, avoided the pitfalls of lapped traffic and survived a two-lap shootout to win the 25-lap feature.

Heavy hitters Norman Hynes, Daley and Justin Bonsignore cut their way through the pack in pursuit of Brian Sullivan, who had taken command after Andy Nye had problems.

By lap five, Bonsignore and Daley had assumed first and second; and on lap nine, Daley completed his march to the front with a power pass for the lead as Hynes was just a few kart lengths off the pace.

With five laps left, the top three had pulled away from the pack but a caution flag flew with two laps left, setting up a green-white-checkered finish. Daley never wavered in the final lap as Bonsignore held second.  Zac Smith made a key last lap move to assume third place at race's end.

Slingshot expert Simon Egan made a crossover move off the last two turns of the final lap that gave him a remarkable win over Matt Carman.

Neither Egan nor  Carman seemed to be likely victors as the white flag waved on the first of three attempts at completing the race.

First, Vern McLaughlin tangled with Shannon Smith when she attempted to pass him on the outside. Smith was spun and went to the back of the pack as did McLaughlin, who was penalized for overly aggressive driving. Brett Biever, who had been among the early race leaders, and Anthony Perrego, who had come back from an early race aggressive driving penalty, lost their chances for a late race victory when they tangled.

This set up the last lap sprint finish that elevated Egan, who had first taken the white flag in sixth place, into the winners' circle.  Carman was inches behind with Brandon Azzalina third.

FRIDAY NIGHT THREE QUARTER MIDGET, 600 MICRO SPRINT FEATURES WON BY TED CHRISTOPHER AND ERICK RUDOLPH; FIELD TAKES SHAPE FOR TONIGHT’S (Saturday) 10th ANNUAL GAMBLERS CLASSIC

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. –February 4 . . . . .  Ted Christopher of Plainville, Ct., and Erick Rudolph of Ransomville, N.Y., were the winners of the Friday Atlantic City Indoor Race feature events before an enthusiastic crowd.

Christopher won for the third time in the Boardwalk Hall; he is tied with Joe Payne and Lou Cicconi as two- time Gamblers Classic winners and will have the opportunity Saturday to sweep the 2012 Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall Three Quarter Midget events and become the only three-time Gamblers Classic winner.

Rudolph ran away with the 600cc Micro Sprint feature when he took the race lead at the one-third distance and survived several caution flag situations that negated big leads.  The win was the first indoors for Rudolph, an accomplished talent on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Racing Series.

In the TQ 30-lap main event, Christopher out dueled Payne in a classic nose-to-tail fight to the finish.  Payne had led the early laps of the race before ‘TC’ out muscled Payne on one of the numerous early race, side-by-side restarts.

Finishing a close third was Matt Janisch, Bethlehem, Pa., who started seventh in the race and avoided several accidents in front of him to take the spot ahead of Ryan Smith, Kunkletown, Pa., and ninth starting Rudolph, winner of the earlier 600cc Micro Sprint race thirty minutes earlier.

Lou Cicconi Jr. perennial favorite, was involved in an early race mishap, went to the rear of the field as a penalty and, with no serious damage present, peddled his way home for a solid sixth place effort. Mike Lichty, who had started from thirteenth spot, Glen Reen, Tim Ice, who started nineteenth, and Bobby Holmes rounded out the top ten TQ feature finishers.

In the 600 Micro 20-lapper, once Rudolph was in the clear, the battle royale was for second place with Lou Cicconi taking the spot off the final turn of the last lap of the 20-car, 20-lap tussle.  Mike Dicely and Kyle Hieber, who was making his first 600 Micro start indoors, completed the top five.

Rob Vivona, rookie Brett Michalski, Steve Walters, Randy Oswald and Justin Moench rounded out the Micro Sprint ten finishers.

Jason Ormsby rode out a spectacular crash on the first lap of the 600 Micro feature in which he overrode another competitor’s car’s wheel and flipped high in the air.  He was not hurt in the wreck that put his car out of commission.

Champ Karts competed in three heat races, setting the front portion of the starting lineup for tomorrow’s feature.  Bobby Timmons, Ryan Kendall and Nick Hadden were the winners.

Slingshot heat race winners were Eddie Strada and Ryan Raidline; the remainder of Slingshot qualifying takes place tomorrow prior to their feature event.

TQ Midget time trials saw Joe Payne, Ted Christopher, Jon Gambuti, Todd Hoddick and Erick Rudolph setting the top five fastest times.  A pair of non-qualifier heat races for TQs were won by Mike Osite and Paul Lotier, Jr.

Ryan Smith, Ted Christopher, Bobby Holmes and Lou Cicconi, Jr. were the winners of the four Friday TQ-Midget qualifying races.

The busy day of racing served to assemble most of the starting lineups for the Champ Kart and Slingshot feature races Saturday.  The two support classes raced in a series of qualifying races Friday to winnow the Champ Kart entries and the Slingshot hopefuls down to who won the Champ Kart heat races and  won the Slingshot trial events.

TQ MIDGET FEATURE (30 Laps):  1. Ted Christopher; 2. Joe Payne Jr., 3. Matt Janisch; 4. Ryan Smith; 5. Erick Rudolph; 6. Lou Cicconi Jr., 7. Mike Lichty; 8. Glen Reen; 9. Tim Ice; 10. RECORD FIELD OF RACE CARS AT A.C. BOARDWALK HALL, PRODUCES HIGH SPEEDS, TIMEX MORGAN FOUR CAR TEAM TOPS CHART, DRIVER TYLER ROSS UNHURT IN WILD MICRO SPRINT CRASH

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J.  February 3, 2012 . . .  After a record 200-plus entries had filed into cavernous pit area of Boardwalk Hall Thursday, a five hour closed-to-the-public test session allowed competitors an opportunity to shake down their cars before racing begins Friday night.

The practice served as a tune-up for the tenth annual Gamblers Classic tonight (February 3) and Saturday (February 4) inside Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall.

The fastest drivers of all, unofficially, were all members of the same team, headed by owner-driver Timex Morgan, Rochester, N.Y. Morgan and his three teammates, Ryan Flores, Mooresville, N.C., Joey Payne Jr., Fairlawn, N.J., and Erick Rudolph, Ransomville, N.Y., were each clocked repeatedly under the nine-second barrier.

“We’re fast,” Payne, a two time Gamblers Classic winner, beamed.  “I think I passed everybody on the track in my group.”

Also under the nine-second barrier were Billy Pauch, Frenchtown, N.J., and Tim Buckwalter, Royersford, Pa.  Both are past Gamblers Classic support race winners.

Two other two time former Gamblers Classic race winners, Ted Christopher, Plainville, Ct., and Lou Cicconi Jr., Aston, Pa., were not as fast.  Cicconi was aboard an all new specially built TQ Midget prepared by Indianapolis car builder Dan Drinan.

Early in the session, Christopher was confident. “There’s still some adjusting to do on the car,” said Christopher.  “I can go faster and was two-tenths father than Louie (Cicconi) already,” Christopher added. In the final practice, ‘TC’ clipped an infield tire barrier, bending his left front suspension, ending his night.

Not surprisingly, Cicconi was not as fast as many of his chief rivals, owing to the fact that his new car had never been raced.  “We have some work to do,” Cicconi said.

Each of the four classes in competition this weekend – TQ-Midgets, 600cc Micro Sprints, Champ Karts and Slingshots – had the chance to shake down the equipment in four separate, rotating test sessions.

Stewart Friesen, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont. dirt track standout, marveled at the amount of time provided and how many paved track specialists coveted the minutes.  “These asphalt drivers just love to practice,” laughed Friesen.  “Us dirt track guys are lucky to get five minutes during the racing season,” he added.

Friesen opted out of the first of the four planned practices. “I’ll wait until the track takes more rubber,” said Friesen. Unfortunately for the Canadian, his car blew an engine his first time on the track, requiring an engine change.

In the second 600cc Micro Sprint practice, a spectacular crash saw a car driven by Tyler Ross flip numerous times and carom off the outside guardrail at high speed.  Ross was uninjured in the wild crash and was actively seeking a replacement car less than an hour after the wreck.

Despite the high level of experience and talent overall, two competitors used the Thursday test to make their very first laps of racing indoors.  They are Shawna Ingraham, Brick, N.J., who is driving a Slingshot for the first time, and Chris Laureigh, Lanoka Harbor, N.J., competing in a Champ Kart in his maiden voyage.

Ingraham, recently named Rookie Of The Year at Wall Stadium for her Sportsman stock car season, had had no illusions of instant success.  “I just want to have some fun,” said Ingraham, grand-daughter of long time New Jersey stock car patron Don Ling, Sr.

Laureigh’s son Jonathan, 15, was originally scheduled to drive.  “When we got here we found out he’s too young, by just a couple of months, to race. So I’m going to drive it,’ said the elder Laureigh, adding that his most recent race was over a decade ago, in a stock car at Wall Stadium.

One of the bigger surprises on the mechanical side of the ledger was the new car being driven Jon Gambuti, Point Pleasant, N.J.  While not in and of itself unusual, the car, owned by Colin Martin, Denver, Pa., was a new Drinan-built machine.  Martin is the designer of the Spitfire, a TQ design that has two past Gamblers Classic wins to its credit.

“It was time for a change,” said Martin. “That’s what I thought.  But the car has been slow.  Gambuti wanted me to go back home and get the old car.”

Each car competing in Boardwalk Hall must pass a pre-race technical inspection with dozens of items checked for legality. The most important of these are safety mandates though competition rules compliance is often the most difficult and contentious phase of the certification.

Inspector George McKelvey was pleasantly surprised at the tech results.  “This was one of the smoothest inspection years we have had,” said McKelvey.

A collection of twelve Vintage TQ-Midgets from the 60s, 70s and 80s and many of the drivers who raced them in Boardwalk Hall will be on hand over the weekend, signing autographs Friday and driving in an exhibition race following Fan Fest and preceding the start of racing on Saturday.

Tickets are still available for Friday (Feb. 3) and Saturday night’s events either through the Boardwalk Hall box office or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

Racing begins at 7:30 p.m. tonight (Feb. 3) and at 7:00 p.m. Saturday.  On Saturday, a one-hour Fan Fest meet-and-greet-the-drivers session will take place on the floor of Boardwalk Hall.

TWO TIME BOARDWALK HALL WINNER JOEY PAYNE SURVIVED MAJOR WRECK TO WIN AGAIN; OVER 200 ENTERED FOR AC INDOOR RACES; FAN FEST I-POD GIVEAWAYS ADDED TO PRE-RACE FUN

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - (January 26, 2012) - There are three TQ Midget drivers who have savored victory in the coveted Gamblers Classic Indoor race not once, but twice.

Unique among them is Joe Payne, Jr., of Fairlawn, N.J.

The 10th edition of the event known as the Gamblers Classic, run under the direction of Len Sammons and staff, is planned for Friday and Saturday nights Feb. 3-4, 2012.

A winner for the first time in the 2004 Gamblers Classic, Payne survived a catastrophic, life-threatening accident in a summer outdoor, 2006 Midget crash.  He then returned to Boardwalk Hall in 2007 to win the Classic a second time.

Payne, a past Three Quarter Midget circuit champion, and expert NEMA Midget and Super modified driver during the summer, is among 80 drivers who will manhandle the powerful TQ (three quarter) Midgets around the tenth-mile Boardwalk Hall track.

“The accident (at Stafford Springs, Ct.) cracked my helmet and bent the left side of the seat straight out,” Payne said.  “The seat manufacturer couldn’t believe I had survived when he saw the seat.  It took awhile to recover from that one,” admitted Payne.

Three other classes, the mechanical bull-like dirt 600cc Micro-Sprints, the slamming’ Slingshots and the guided missile Champ Karts will be in competition.

Nearly sixty Champ kart teams, three dozen Slingshot specialists, and 32 dirt 600cc Micro Sprint men and machines have paid the entry fee to secure a spot on the roster.

That number is expected to grow as this weekend’s race date approaches. Over two hundred cars have entered to date.

Payne, who also has two second place finishers in the ‘Gamblers’ (2008,  2009), will be driving a 2011 model car built by New York master TQ Midget builder Mike Lafler.  Lafler’s cars have a reputation for durability and safety, important considerations for Payne since his accident.

Vintage TQ midgets, an added class for 2012, will be showcased on Friday, Feb. 3 throughout Boardwalk’s Hall spectator concourse with many of their drivers and owners on hand to sign autographs.

Vintage Cars will then be displayed and drivers will be available for autographs and photos during the interactive Saturday evening Fanfest session prior to the beginning of racing program.  A controlled exhibition race will follow among the vintage cars and their drivers. These retired drivers will hand out full-size souvenir pennants to the first five hundred youngsters during Fanfest as well.

The Vintage TQ program has been assembled by noted racing engineer Gary Mondschein, who himself was a TQ Midget and full size Midget driver for many years.

The Fan Fest pre-race autograph signing session will also provide opportunities for lucky fans to win valuable prizes.

Through the courtesy of 600cc Micro Sprint car sponsor and entrant JR Michalski Heating &?Air Conditioning of Langhorne, Pa., two lucky young fans will win I-Pods.  The free-to-enter drawing will take place at trackside at the conclusion of Fan Fest by the side of Brett Michalski’s 600cc Micro Sprint.

THREE QUARTER MIDGET DRIVER MIKE TIDABACK HAS EXPERIENCED INDOOR RACING EXTREMES; HE IS AMONG FORMER WINNERS IN A.C.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ…..January 18, 2012 . . .  Mike Tidaback knows first hand what it feels like to experience the rush of victory inside Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall. He also knows what it is like to walk away from a big time crash. The 10th edition of the event known as the Gamblers Classic, run under the direction of Len Sammons and staff, is planned for Friday and Saturday nights Feb. 3-4, 2012.

In the sixth running of the Indoor racing classic, in 2008, Tidaback, of Little Falls, N.J., rubbed wheels with fellow driver Donnie Adams  and, in a battle of wills, won the feature in spectacular style. Two years later, in the eighth running of the Gamblers Classic, Tidaback was dazed and ablaze after flying through the air following a multi-car, high-speed collision.

Tidaback, a past Three Quarter Midget circuit champion, is among over 70 drivers who will wrestle the powerful TQ (three quarter) Midgets around the tenth-mile Boardwalk Hall track. Three other classes, the straight-line fast dirt 600cc Micro-Sprints, the tested-tough Slingshots and the lazer-like Champ Karts will be in competition.

Over fifty Champ kart teams, two-and-a-half dozen Slingshot specialists, and a like number of dirt 600cc Micro Sprint men and machines have paid the entry fee to secure a spot on the roster. That number is expected to grow with just two weeks remaining prior to race time.  Overall, more than 200 teams are expected to be vying for starting berths in the four feature races.

The 10th edition of the event under the direction of Len Sammons and staff is planned for Friday and Saturday nights Feb. 3-4, 2012.

The driver roster for the four competition classes stands at 73 TQ teams, 54 Champ kart teams, 31 dirt 600cc Micro Sprint cars and drivers, and 27 Slingshots.

The dozen cars include the former John Wehrle no. 02, to be driven by Johnny Coy Jr.; Jimmy English’s no. 4, to be driven by Jim Maguire; the former Howard Boyd no. 43 to be driven by Hank Rogers Jr.; and Mike Osite’s no. 81 to be driven by Bobby Cicconi.

The Vintage TQ Midgets join four classes of race cars, the powerful TQ (three quarter) Midgets, wild dirt 600cc Micro-Sprints, rugged Slingshots and bullet-like Champ Karts will be in competition.

Other Vintage TQ entries are the  John Fick no. 11 with Dick Peterman driving; Gary Mondschein’s no. 10X with its former driver and owner Bruce Kindberg  behind the wheel; the former Charlie Smith no. 5 driven by 1960s Midwest favorite Bobby Hamilton; and Art Lawshe, original and current owner and driver of his no. 22.

The driver roster for the four competition classes stands at sixty-eight TQ teams, forty-five Champ kart teams, close to twenty-three dirt 600cc Micro Sprint cars and drivers, and twenty-six Slingshots are pre-entered to date.

That number is expected to grow steadily with three weeks remaining prior to race time.  Upward of 200 teams are expected to be vying for starting berths in the four feature races.

Rounding out the Vintage TQ Midget teams are the former Tom DeMasco no. 18 to be driven by Drew Fornoro; the former Fred Brink no. 54 with Paul  Weisel driving; the  former Bud Piersig no.10 to be driven by Wayne Laucious;  and Bill  Force’s no. 26 that he will drive.

The Vintage TQ midgets will be displayed on Friday, Feb. 3 throughout Boardwalk’s Hall spectator concourse with many of their drivers and owners on hand to sign autographs.

A warm-up session is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, Feb. 4.  Cars will then be displayed and drivers will be available for autographs and photos during the interactive evening Fanfest session prior to the beginning of racing program.

Drivers will hand out full-size souvenir pennants to the first five hundred youngsters during Fanfest as well.

The Vintage TQ program has been assembled by noted racing engineer Gary Mondschein, who himself was a TQ Midget and full size Midget driver for many years.

PAUL LOTIER BUILDS, ENTERS RADICAL TQ MIDGET FOR AC INDOOR RACES; ALSO FIRST ENTRY FOR PROVIDENCE, RI INDOOR RACE

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (December 30, 2011) - Paul Lotier Jr. is an accomplished Indoor Three Quarter Midget driver. At this year’s upcoming Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall Indoor Races, he hopes to become equally respected as a car builder.

The 10th edition of the event under the direction of Len Sammons and staff is planned for Friday and Saturday nights Feb. 3-4, 2012.

Four classes of race cars, blindingly fast TQ (three quarter) Midgets, unpredictable dirt 600cc Micro-Sprints, hard-to-handle Slingshots and agile Champ Karts will be in competition.

Lotier, 26, of Lebanon, Pa., is taking a non-traditional route to Atlantic City.  In an age when most TQ midget cars are either mass produced or were built more than a decade ago, Lotier has constructed his TQ himself, from the ground up.

“The car is going to be different,” warns Lotier.  “There isn’t going to be anything quite like it out there.”

Lotier started with “a clean sheet of paper” designing the car that will incorporate a radical off-set and a refined independent suspension.

Lotier is among nearly 70 TQ drivers already entered in the Indoor Race.  Forty-five Champ kart teams, close to two dozen dirt 600cc Micro Sprint cars and drivers, and 20 Slingshots are pre-entered to date.

That number is expected to grow steadily with four weeks remaining prior to race time.  As many as 200 teams are expected to be vying for starting berths in the four feature races.

Building race cars isn’t exactly a stretch for Lotier.  He works closely with his brother-in-law Richard Tobias designing, building, developing and promoting Slingshot cars.

In fact, Lotier will personally oversee the progress in the Boardwalk Hall Slingshot events of three cars, to be driven by Matt Carman, Brett Bieber and Shawna Ingraham.

Lotier will use the number 7 on his TQ Midget, the number his father (Paul Sr.) used extensively during his small-block Modified and 410 Sprint car career.  His dad has been an integral part of the project design.

Racers wishing to enter any of the divisions competing in Atlantic City may find entry and rule information available at aarn.com.

Lotier is also the first driver to file an official entry for “The Coffee Cup”, the indoor race scheduled for Providence, R.I. on March 10-11, 2012 at Dunkin Donuts Center.

LIGHTING FAST CHAMP KARTS READY TO ATTACK A.C. BOARDWALK HALL; ENTRIES AT 41; ROSTERS SWELL IN ALL CLASSES

ATLANTIC CITY,  NJ  (December 21, 2011) -
Among the four classes of competition scheduled to compete in the Indoor Races at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall, the blindingly fast Champ Karts require the most precise driving skills.

The 10th edition of the event under the direction of Len Sammons and staff is planned for Friday and Saturday nights Feb. 3-4, 2012. TQ (three quarter) Midgets, dirt 600cc Micro-Sprints and Slingshots join  the nimble Champ Karts in competition.
Chris Daley and Norman Hynes, two past winners who have mastered the delicate touch needed to succeed in this game-of-inches and are among the heavy favorites to win again.

Daley, of Pleasant  Valley, N.Y., won the 2008 running of the Champ Kart Indoor Race and was a near winner of the 2006 and 2009 races.

Hynes of Lithium, Md., is the defending champion of the lightning fast event.  Like Daley, he had other opportunities to  win in previous years.

Hynes pumped his fists vigorously when he  crossed the finish line under the checkered flag, calling the Boardwalk Hall victory “among my biggest”.

Forty-one Champ Kart teams have pre-registered for the event, joining nearly seventy TQ teams, thirty dirt 600cc Micro Sprint teams and twenty Slingshots.

That number is expected to grow steadily with five weeks remaining prior to race time with 200 teams expected to be vying for starting berths  in the four feature races.

Champ Kart drivers entered hail from eleven different states as distant as Maine (1 entry) and  North Carolina (2 entries).
Pennsylvania and New Jersey lead all other  states with eight drivers each while Massachusetts has seven, New York  six, and Connecticut five.

Rhode Island, Virginia, Maryland and New Hampshire have one driver each in the field.

Champ Kart drivers will need to earn starting spots in the 25-lap main event through time trials (the top fifteen lock in to the feature),  A series of heat races and B-mains will generate the remaining nine starters to form a twenty-four kart field.
Racers wishing to enter any of the divisions competing in Atlantic City may find entry and rule information available at aarn.com.

Tickets for the Atlantic City event are on sale now at Ticketmaster outlets online at www.ticketmaster.com and at the Boardwalk Hall box office. Ticket prices remain the same as the past event. Premium seats sell out quickly.

HERR'S SNACK BOWL MORE THAN JUST A RACE

The 2009 Slingshot All Star National champion Cody Kline and the 2011 Slingshot Speedweeks champion Bill Weaver have been teammates for the past 4 seasons and their entry into the 2012 Herr's Snack Bowl will be more than just the wheeling and dealing on the 1/12th mile speedway as the team has a special cause that every lap in the Herr's Snack Bowl 25 will contribute to.

In late fall 2011, a good friend of the Kline Racing Family learned her breast cancer had returned. Together with Billy Weaver, the 59 and the 1 cars have decided to go Racing for the Cure at the Herr’s Snack Bowl 25 Feature Event in Atlantic City on February 4, 2012.

For every lap completed by either the 59 or the 1 car in the feature event, we are asking for a $2.00 to $5.00 donation (or any contribution you wish) with all proceeds benefiting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.
We also have pink wrist bands to help generate donation money.

The simple thought that many owners, drivers, crew members and fans have family or friends that have had this dreaded condition and the Weaver /  Kline Team want to give back in hopes that it can be eliminated.

There are donation forms being distributed and they can be obtained by emailing Cody Kline at ckline@ijoei.com. With the donation forms received, donators will be asked if they want their names placed on the cars as photos of the 59 & 1will be taken to further the cause.

All money collected will be directly donated to the Cure Foundation.

ERICK RUDOLPH WILL TRAVEL A LONG ROAD TO RACE INDOORS IN ATLANTIC CITY’S BOARDWALK HALL

ATLANTIC CITY,  NJ  December 15, 2011...
The biggest challenge teenage racer Erick Rudolph  will face racing in Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall is not likely to be on the track.  It’s the trip getting there.

The 10th edition of the event under the direction of Len Sammons and staff is planned for Friday and Saturday nights Feb. 3-4, 2012. TQ (three quarter) Midgets, dirt 600cc Micro-Sprints, Slingshots and Champ Karts will be in competition.

Rudolph enjoys racing so much that he will be traveling from Ransomville,  N.Y.,  an  eight hour drive each way, to compete in both the TQ Midget and dirt 600cc Micro Sprint races.

In excess of sixty TQ teams and  nearly thirty dirt 600cc Micro Sprint teams have entered with that number expected to grow steadily.

“I like to race as much as I can,” said Rudolph, 19.  “And it’s been a long winter.”

With rules modifications instituted for this year’s Atlantic City Indoor race, the  opportunity for drivers to “double down” -  compete in both headline classes -  has attracted a large field of entries in both divisions.

Racers wishing to enter any of the divisions competing in Atlantic City may find  entry and rule information available at aarn.com.

Rudolph will be exceptionally well prepared in his quest for two wins in two races.  Both of his cars were built by Mark Lafler, one of the top car builders in the northeast.

“Indoor racing takes a lot of patience,” said Rudolph, “It’s close quarters racing.”

The third generation race car driver got his first taste of winter indoor racing at Niagara Falls, N.Y., a mecca for the sport in the previous two decades.  Rudolph competed in go-kart racing events there.

Tickets for the Atlantic City event are on sale now at Ticketmaster outlets online at www.ticketmaster.com and at the Boardwalk Hall box office. Ticket prices remain the same as the past event. Premium seats sell out quickly.

Further information can also be obtained by calling the show office (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at 609-888-3618.

BOARDWALK HALL CHAMP CHRISTOPHER IS POISED
FOR ANOTHER GAMBLERS CLASSIC WIN

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (November 30, 2011) -  Ted Christopher, the 2009 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion,  who swept to victory in the 2011 Gamblers Classic Indoor auto race at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. is aiming for repeat success with an updated car.

The 10th edition of the event under the direction of Len Sammons and staff is planned for Friday and Saturday nights Feb. 3-4, 2012. TQ (three quarter) Midgets, dirt 600cc Micro-Sprints, Slingshots and Champ Karts will be in competition.

Christopher, Plainville, Ct., who was blindingly fast last year, has worked diligently on the car making subtle adjustments.
“I made some changes to  the motor and some chassis changes. Every year I try to do things to make the car better.  I lightened up some things but not at the expense of durability,” Christopher said.

Christopher is among over 72 drivers expected to  compete  in the TQ midget  class,  the fastest of the four divisions racing at Boardwalk Hall.

Christopher’s entry brings to Boardwalk Hall one of the most accomplished drivers in the sport today. In addition to his NASCAR Modified  championship,  “TC”  is a NASCAR Weekly Racing Series champion,  has earned multiple track championships Thompson, Stafford and Waterford, and has competed in NASCAR Sprint Cup events.

His versatility - he has raced  in NASCAR’S Sprint Cup &?Nationwide Series, the ISMA?Supermodified Series, and in the 24-hours of Daytona sports car event - is what enabled Chistopher to adapt quickly to Indoor TQ?Midget racing, something he had not done in his career until five years ago. “If I can get a good car and work on it, I can win with it,” Christopher has said.

Racers wishing to enter any of the divisions competing in Atlantic City should note an early rate discount ends on December 9th. All entry and rule information is available at aarn.com.

Special hotel room rates are available at the show web-site at the Trump Plaza Casino which neighbors Boardwalk Hall.

JIMMY CARPENTER HEADS LIST OF 600 MICRO DRIVERS
HEADED FOR ATLANTIC CITY FEB 3-4, 2012

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (November 23, 2011) -  Indoor auto racing at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. features four different types of race cars.

The 10th edition of the event under the direction of Len Sammons and staff is planned for Friday and Saturday nights Feb. 3-4, 2012. TQ (three quarter) Midgets, dirt 600cc Micro-Sprints, Slingshots and Champ Karts will be in competition.

Traditionally, it has been the sleek, lightning fast Three-Quarter Midget machines and their drivers that attract the lion’s share of pre-race interest. However, much attention in the past week has revolved around the upright dirt 600cc Micro-Sprints.

Jimmy Carpenter, the Atlantic City Indoor Race’s defending champion of the 600cc Micros, admits the cars are unpredictable to drive. “There’s a different feel to racing on concrete indoors than anything else,” Carpenter admits.  “We got lucky last year but will come prepared to win this time.”

“I was surprised last year when I won,” said Jimmy Carpenter, 42 of Manchester, N.J.  “And it was an even bigger surprise for me when my good friend Rob Vivona (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished second.”

Carpenter prevailed over a decimated field that was more than halved by several huge crashes and many more minor ones.

Carpenter, who spent the 2011 outdoor season racing winged 305 and wingless 360 Sprints, would like nothing more than to repeat in this year’s 600 Micro feature but knows a that stout field of rivals. Early entries also include Brett Michalski, Penndel, Pa., Ed Wilberg Sr., Newark, Del., Jason Ormsby, Warsaw, Ind., and Greg Smith, Westfield, Mass.

NASCAR STAR JOHNNY BENSON IS IN FOR ATLANTIC CITY INDOOR RACE;
TEAMS WITH CICCONI IN NEW DRINAN CAR

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – November 17, 2011
…ISMA Supermodified star and past NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck standout Johnny Benson, Jr. is the latest driver to file an entry for the Indoor Auto Racing event to be held at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall in February.

Benson, 48, earned a total of 17 career wins among NASCAR’s three national circuits, including one Sprint Cup triumph, at Rockingham, N.C., in 2002.

Benson has proven to be a quick study throughout his career.  In three different series, ASA, NASCAR Nationwide and NASCAR Sprint Cup, Benson has earned Rookie of the Year honors.  He subsequently earned ASA and Nationwide Series championships, indicative of his ability to adapt quickly.

Lou Cicconi Jr. is preparing a new Drinan-chassis for Benson to drive.  “I raced with Johnny in ISMA the last couple of years.  I can see by racing with him that he gets the most out of a car. That’s the kind of driver I want,” Cicconi stated.

Benson’s most recent win came at Seekonk, Mass. on October 2, 2011 in an ISMA Supermodified race; Cicconi trailed him for most of that race.

Though Benson has never raced indoors, Cicconi has no doubt his versatility will make him instantly competitive.  Cicconi is also building an identical new Drinan car for himself.

The 10th edition of the event under the direction of Len Sammons and staff is planned for Friday and Saturday nights Feb. 3-4, 2012. TQ (three quarter) Midgets, dirt 600cc Micro-Sprints, Slingshots and Champ Karts will be in competition.
